Selling Your Work at Festivals and Craft Fairs

The basics:
  • Get it clear first, why you are selling your work 
  • Vendor spots can be reserved at various venues in north Alabama
  • Vendor space reservation cost ranges ($10 to $125 per day)
    • These events generally open at 10- 11am and run until 5pm

Conrad has sold at these venues in Huntsville:

  • Lowe Mill
  • The Market at Mid City
  • Downtown Huntsville's Friday Night Art Walk

Costs and equipment needed to sell:
  • Vendor space reservation
  • Awning/tent (10x10) 
  • Table/Display
  • Business cards, signs, merchandise bags if applicable
  • A way to moving your inventory from vehicle to vendor spot (dolly/cart, boxes)
  • A smart phone or tablet as calculator, to show photos of other work, to exchange contact info, process money transfers or take credit cards

In advance:
  • People want to know how you created the item; have a story ready 
  • Know if will you have a website
  • Will you have a phone number, email, or business address to give out
  • You want an Assistant for backup 
  • How will you handle money (cash so need to bring lots of small denominations to make change; will you take a personal check; credit cards and need a service like Square; money transfer services like Venmo)
  • If you will add taxes to the sales; State and Federal taxes then paid
  • Pricing; recommend this be determined in advance and that items have price displayed.
  • Determine if you are going to accept commissions.
  • Determine how you will handle money (cash, check, credit cards using Square or similar; money transfer services)
  • Taxes collected; State and Federal paid
